At the 8th Trade Policy Debate held at the Textile Center Conference Hall on November 12, Incheon National University 'Deungdae'(It means lighthouse in Korean) Team (Yoon Gun-woo and Ham Tae-gyu from the Department of Trade, Sung Yu-bin from the Department of Business Administration) won the International Trade Association Award.
The Trade Policy Debate Competition is hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, which has been held since 2017 to raise young people's interest in trade and marks its eighth anniversary this year. Thirty-five teams participated in the competition, and 16 teams selected after the preliminary thesis review advanced to the finals to compete for their own achievements. The round of 16 match was held on October 14, and the tournament schedule was concluded with the quarterfinals to the final match on November 12.
The Deungdae team was formed through the Discussion Small Group (Professor Ahn Ho-rim), an in-school comparison course opened for practical discussion education. "We, who lack experience in real-world discussions, were able to easily prepare for the competition because of Professor Ahn Ho-rim and his team members who supported us through the Discussion Small Group class," said Yoon Gun-woo, a student at the team's team leader. "Professor Ko Bo-min (Department of Trade), a trade policy expert who was a judge of the previous competition, provided high-quality materials and gave close mentoring," he said, expressing his gratitude.
The Deungdae team said in unison that it was able to achieve good results through the on-campus comparison program and the support of professors in the Department of Trade, adding that it hopes students' interest in expanding the on-campus discussion education program and participating in the discussion competition will grow.
